History
Everything began in 1974 roku when 19 Poznan University of Technology students decided to set up an Academic Mountain Club - one of the first academic organizations in Poznan. The exact date is 5th of April 1974 8.15pm - first meeting took place in student house nr 2 basement. Stanisław Grześkowiak the founder of Halny is a honourable member of our Club.
A first event organized by „Halny” was „Śnieżnik 74” in november 1974. From the very beginning „Halny” was an exclusive association. You couldn't just simply appear on the one of our meetings, fill a declaration form and become a member. Initially you have a „sympathiser” status. If you participate in trips offered by Halny you should observe carefully what are the organizer's duties. After taking part in sufficient number of trips Halny's administration may give you a responsible task - weekend trip organization.
After successfully organizing your own weekend mountain trip you become a member of Halny Mountain Club. It gives you several privileges. You can start and/or vote in annual elections, you can use Club's Touristic Rental with no extra fees (in case you paid your memebership fee), you have 15% discount on every weekend trip we organize etc.
To participate in events organized by „Halny” you don't need to possess any extra skills such as competence in climbing or extraordinary form. All you need is to enjoy wandering in the mountains and be used to touristic conditions in mountain hostels. In every trip there are more than 50 participants so it is a good chance to meet various people and make friendships.
It is hard to shortly summarize almost 35 years of our activity. However, it's worth to quote several names and numbers. So far we've organized :
- 34 times Rajd „Śnieżny” - from 1974 yearly in December,
- 33 times Rajd „Sudety” - from 1975 yearly on breakthrough of March and April ,
- 27 times Rajd „Ten Trzeci” - from 1981 yearly on breakthrough of April and Mai,
- 19 times Rajd „Alkoholowy” - from 1989 yearly in March,
- 18 times Rajd „Październikowy” - from 1990 yearly in October,
- 10 times Rajd „Na Przekór” - from 1998 yearly in November,
- 7 times Górski Indywidualny Rajd Akademicki - GIRA,
- and many many others!
Of course as genuine tourists we cannot waste our student summer holidays so from the very beginning we organize long term expeditions - mainly to explore the mountains but not only. Our memebers have visited every single continent and almost each country that exists.
„Halny” is a place where tradition is combined with modernity, maturity meets youth and the results of this cooperation are superb. If you still hesitate simply come and visit us - undoubtfully we will convince you that „Halny” is a valuable choice! :)
